Password vs Passphrase: Which is More Secure?
Both passwords and passphrases can be highly secure, but they have different strengths. A random password like X7#mK2$pQ is hard to guess but also hard to remember. A passphrase like "correct-horse-battery-staple" is longer, has more entropy, and is much easier to recall.
When to Use Each
- Passwords: Best when stored in a password manager — use maximum randomness
- Passphrases: Best for master passwords you must memorize (password manager, disk encryption)
